According to a report by Reuters on Jan. 20, US President-elect Donald Trump declared pardons for around 1,500 individuals involved in the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the US Capitol.
In addition to the mass pardon, Trump announced the commutation of sentences for six defendants, signaling a significant step in his campaign commitment to aid supporters imprisoned due to their involvement in the Capitol riot.
Among those potentially set for release is Enrique Tarrio, the former leader of the far-right group "Proud Boys," who was sentenced to 22 years in prison for his role in organizing the riot. Tarrio's lawyer welcomed the announcement, while a spokesperson for the Bureau of Prisons confirmed that some federal inmates connected to the Capitol riot would be released on the inauguration day.
