Watch This | Gaza ceasefire agreement reached: Biden and Trump vie for credit
On Jan. 15, local time, a ceasefire agreement was reached between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), according to reports from CCTV and international media. The deal marks a significant step toward de-escalating tensions in the region. However, US President Joe Biden and President-elect Donald Trump are locked in a public dispute over who deserves credit for the breakthrough.
Earlier in the day, Donald Trump took to social media to attribute the agreement to his victory in the 2024 US presidential election. He emphasized the role of his national security team and his Middle East envoy in facilitating the deal.
President Biden, meanwhile, highlighted that the agreement closely aligns with the framework he proposed in May of last year. When asked by a Fox News reporter, "Who gets credit for this, Mr. President? You or Trump?" Biden responded, "Is that a joke?"
