HK resident rescued successfully from 'selling piglets' scam in Southeast Asia
The Myanmar scam resurges. Previously, 12 Hong Kong residents were detained, with 11 in Myanmar and one along the Cambodian border. The Security Bureau's dedicated team had earlier traveled to Thailand to actively follow up on cases of Hong Kong residents falling victim to the "selling piglets."
Today (Jan. 16), Secretary for Security Tang Ping-keung brought good news via social media, announcing the successful rescue and safe return to Hong Kong of one Hong Kong resident who had been lured into Southeast Asia and detained.
Tang stated that this morning, he and his team met with the Thai Consulate General in Hong Kong to express gratitude for their assistance in cases involving Hong Kong residents being unlawfully detained and exploited in Southeast Asia. Both parties continued discussions on the action plan for rescuing Hong Kong residents. He disclosed that one of the detained Hong Kong residents was confirmed to have boarded a flight back to Hong Kong this morning. Security Bureau, police, and Immigration Department personnel received the individual at the airport, ensuring a safe return to Hong Kong.
Tang expressed his gratitude for the efforts of all departments that led to this positive development. He and his team will continue to follow up, hoping for the safe return of every Hong Kong resident.
