FEHD issues closure order to Glory Café at Kowloon Bay for operating without license

The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department (FEHD) announced yesterday (Jan. 15) that they have obtained a court-issued closure order to close down an unlicensed food establishment located at Shop 1B2, G/F, Fook Hong Industrial Building, 19 Sheung Yuet Road, Kowloon Bay.

The establishment has been operating without a license since 2019, and the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department has filed a total of 76 prosecutions against it for its violations. Records show that the establishment is known as "Glory Café."

A spokesperson for the FEHD stated that the food establishment continued to operate without a license, repeatedly violating the Food Business Regulation (Cap. 132X). Therefore, the department applied to the court for a closure order under the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance (Cap. 132) to close the relevant premises to completely halt its non-compliance. Departmental staff have posted the text of the closure order in prominent locations at the relevant premises, and the closure order will take effect on the 8th day after issuance (Jan. 23).

"Glory Café" recently responded to inquiries from netizens on social media by claiming, "It's not about the owner, not about the staff, not about the business, not about finances... What do you think it's about?" Some netizens sarcastically commented, "They can start crowdfunding again."

According to the Public Health and Municipal Services Ordinance (Chapter 132), unless granted written permission by the FEHD, no one is allowed to enter or remain in a sealed premises. Otherwise, it is considered illegal, and upon conviction, individuals could face a maximum fine of HK$100,000, imprisonment for up to 12 months, and a further daily fine of HK$1,750.
