Chung Kim-wah, former Deputy CEO of Hong Kong People's Opinion Research Institute (HKPORI) and former assistant professor at the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, was offered an HK$1,000,000 bounty by the National Security Department (NSD) last month. It is reported that the Hong Kong police force took his son and wife to the police station today (Jan. 14) to assist the investigation.

Yesterday, the police force of NSD went to the home of Robert Chung Ting-yiu (the president and CEO of HKPORI) and the office of HKPORI in Wong Chuk Hang to investigate a case involving assisting fugitives. It is reported that Robert Chung was taken back to the police station to assist with investigations.

According to the police, the NSD conducted raids on a residential place and a commercial building unit on Hong Kong Island based on a court warrant. According to an investigation, certain individuals were suspected of using their institution to assist a fugitive who has fled overseas and continues to engage in activities endangering national security. During the operation, NSD officers seized a number of exhibits, including computers, tablets, mobile phones, and bank documents. A director and two staff members of the institution under investigation were also invited to the police station for assistance with the investigation. The case is still under investigation, and no one has been arrested yet.

Last month, the NSD issued arrest warrants, offering a bounty of HK$1,000,000 each for the capture of six individuals, including Chung Kim-wah, who are currently overseas. The warrants allege that they are suspected of inciting secession and colluding with foreign forces to endanger national security. They are accused of advocating "Hong Kong independence" and calling for foreign sanctions against the mainland and Hong Kong through various platforms.
