An industrial accident occurred in Lam Tin. At 9:41 a.m. today (Jan. 14), a landslide occurred on the slope opposite Hong Wah Court at No. 2 Lin Tak Road, where improvement works were being carried out. An excavator at the site slid down the slope, crashing into a fence on the carriageway of Lin Tak Road and hitting the front end of a refuse collection vehicle contracted by the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department, resulting in injuries to three people.

After the incident, the drivers of the dredger and the refuse collection vehicle climbed out of the vehicle respectively, and a man was trapped on the passenger side of the refuse collection vehicle, which was rescued by the Fire Services Department. After more than three hours of rescue, the trapped worker was rescued at about 12:37 pm and was sobered up and sent to hospital for treatment.

The Transport Department announced that due to the collapse of the scaffolding, the entire route on Lin Tak Road (inbound and outbound directions) near Hong Wah Court is now closed. Traffic is now heavy at the above location, and motorists are urged to consider using other roads instead. As a result of the incident, KMB bus routes 16, 16M, 16X, 214, 613 and Citybus route A26 have to be diverted.
