44-vehicle pileup in S. Korea due to icy roads
At approximately 5:15 a.m. local time on Jan. 14, a massive chain-reaction collision involving 44 vehicles occurred in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province, South Korea. The accident, which involved trucks, buses, and cars, was reported by South Korean police and fire authorities.
According to the Gyeonggi-do Fire & Disaster Headquarters, several individuals sustained minor injuries. One truck driver was injured and has been taken to the hospital for treatment.
Police stated that the crashes were caused by icy road conditions following rainfall on the evening of Jan. 13. To prevent further incidents, authorities have implemented road closures, applied de-icing agents to affected areas, and are conducting a thorough investigation into the accident's cause.
