It has been reported that Hong Kong's largest online doctor's prescription platform, FastMed, sells prescription drugs, claiming that it can provide online text diagnosis and waive consultation fees.
The Secretary for Health, Lo Chung-mau, responded today (Jan. 13) that he is concerned about the incident, and according to preliminary understanding, it is found that the process involves doctors prescribing medicines, and the Department of Health (DH) has launched an investigation to collect evidence, including the source of medicines and the process.
Lo pointed out that it is not an offense if a doctor prescribes medicines, but it is necessary to find out whether medical professional conduct is involved in the process. He pointed out that there is legislation regulating drugs, and the Medical Council has also set out a code of practice for telemedicine, which doctors are required to comply with.
Lo added that more evidence was needed to determine whether the platform's procurement of drugs and provision of telemedicine complied with the code, and that if any violation of the law or the code was found, it would be followed up and referred to the Medical Council.
