Confusion over Golden Harvest theaters' closure: Ticket sales resume until next Wednesday

Golden Harvest sparked closure rumors yesterday (Jan. 10) after its four cinemas temporarily restricted ticket sales to same-day showings only. However, by the evening, the cinema chain resumed selling tickets for the next two days. As of this morning (Jan. 11), ticket pre-sales have been extended to next Wednesday, calming public speculation about the chain's status.

At around 11 a.m. today, The Sky at Olympian City saw sparse footfall. Ticket machines displayed showtimes for both same-day and pre-sale tickets up until Jan. 15.

The Golden Harvest ticketing website also shows pre-sale availability for its other cinemas, including MegaBox in Kowloon Bay, StagE in Tuen Mun, and Galaxy Plaza in Shau Kei Wan.

Golden Harvest's brief ticketing disruption comes amid a challenging time for the city's cinema industry. Multiple cinemas closed last year, including V Walk, Kowloon City's Cine-Art House, Golden Harvest Kai Tak, President Theatre in Causeway Bay, The Metroplex by Cinema City, Cinema City Langham Place, MCL South Horizons Cinema, and MCL Cinemas Plus+ Plaza Hollywood. Additionally, ACX Cinema in North Point has been "temporarily closed for renovations" since late October, with no reopening date announced.
