JetBlue Airways on Tuesday (Jan. 7) had a dangerous accident. A male passenger had a quarrel with his girlfriend on the plane, and in a fit of anger, he opened the cabin door on the way to takeoff, causing the escape slide to pop out, scaring all the passengers on board, but fortunately, the action did not cause a serious accident.
According to comprehensive reports, the incident occurred at about 7:30 p.m. on Jan. 7, the flight involved was about to go to Puerto Rico from Boston's Edward Lawrence Logan International Airport. While the airplane was taxiing on the runway, the male passenger suddenly opened the cabin door and the escape slide popped out.
Witnesses on the plane said the out-of-control male passenger was arguing with his girlfriend on board before he opened the door. After he became disoriented, other passengers rushed to restrain him for fear of endangering other people's lives, and then police boarded the plane and arrested the male passenger.
The arrested male passenger, whose identity was not disclosed, was arraigned in district court in East Boston on the morning of Jan. 8. The Massachusetts State Police said the preliminary investigation showed that the incident was an isolated one and did not pose a threat to public safety, while the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also conducted an investigation into the incident.
A JetBlue spokesperson released a statement after the incident, saying that the passenger opened a door on the wing of Flight 161 "for unknown reasons" and then stayed on board. Although the flight was delayed for about four hours, the passengers eventually made it to their destination.
