According to Reuters, Takeshi Ebisawa, a 60-year-old leader of a Japanese crime syndicate, pleaded guilty on Wednesday (Jan. 8) to charges related to trafficking nuclear materials from Myanmar, as announced by the U.S. Justice Department.

In a court appearance in Manhattan, New York, Ebisawa admitted to conspiring with a network of associates to traffic nuclear materials, including uranium and weapons-grade plutonium, to various countries. He also pleaded guilty to charges of international narcotics trafficking and weapons offenses.

The case highlights ongoing concerns about the illicit trade of dangerous materials and the involvement of organized crime in such activities.
