Cash rewards for reporting public housing misuse in HK starting next Wednesday
The Hong Kong Housing Authority (HKHA) announced today (Jan. 8) the launch of a new "Report Public Housing Abuse Award" program, which will take effect next Wednesday (Jan. 15). Under the scheme, individuals who report public housing misuse with their real names may receive a cash reward of up to HK$3,000 if their information leads to the issuance of a termination notice against the offending tenants. A special review committee will oversee the program to prevent potential abuse.
According to the HKHA, the program is open to individuals aged 16 or above who are not directly employed by the HKHA or Housing Department (HD). Eligible participants must provide accurate and truthful information under their real names, enabling the HD to successfully issue a notice to vacate to tenants misusing public housing. Reporters will undergo an initial evaluation and interview with designated officers to verify the authenticity of their reports. If the information is substantiated and leads to action, the reporter will receive a certificate of appreciation and the HK$3,000 cash reward.
Reports can be submitted via several channels, including mail, an online form on the HKHA or HD websites, a dedicated hotline, email, or by notifying estate management offices.
