New reward scheme for reporting public housing abuse to launch in January 2025
In an effort to crack down on the abuse of public rental housing, Hong Kong's Housing Bureau has announced a new reporting mechanism set to launch in January 2025. The initiative, mentioned in the latest Policy Address, aims to further strengthen efforts to reclaim misused public housing units.
According to the document submitted by the Housing Bureau to the Legislative Council today (Oct. 31), individuals who provide actionable information that leads to the successful recovery of a misused public housing unit will be eligible for a cash reward of HK$3,000 and a certificate of appreciation.
The "Cherish Public Housing Resources Award Scheme", which is set to launch in January 2025, will require participants to submit reports using their real names. Each applicant must agree to participate in the scheme and will undergo an initial review and an in-person interview with designated personnel to verify the accuracy of the information and prevent abuse of the reward system.
Reports can be submitted through various channels, including free mail, online forms, and a dedicated hotline. All members of the public, except direct employees of the Housing Department, are eligible to participate.
