A fatal traffic accident occurred on Wang Kee Street, Kowloon Bay, on the afternoon of January 3. A 27-year-old motorcyclist surnamed Wong died at the scene after losing control of his motorcycle. The incident reportedly happened as Wong attempted to evade a traffic police pursuit. During the chase, an off-duty customs officer ran into the road in an attempt to stop the motorcycle. Wong managed to avoid the officer’s interception but subsequently lost control and crashed, resulting in his death on the spot.
According to reports, police arrested a 40-year-old man on the same day under suspicion of "tampering with motor vehicles." He is currently out on bail pending further investigation. The case remains under investigation, and police will seek advice from the Department of Justice.

Under Section 49 of the Road Traffic Ordinance (Cap. 374), "Tampering with motor vehicles" is an offense. It states that anyone without lawful authority or reasonable excuse enters or interferes with any part of a vehicle and commits an offense. The penalty includes a fine of up to HK$5,000 and imprisonment for up to 12 months.
Details of the Incident
On the day of the accident, traffic police spotted the motorcycle violating traffic regulations in Kowloon Bay. Officers sounded their sirens and began pursuit. When the chase reached Wang Kee Street, an off-duty customs officer attempted to stop the motorcycle but fell to the ground in the process, sustaining injuries to his hand and being sent to the hospital for treatment.
Wong, the motorcyclist, lost control of his vehicle, collided with a crash barrier, and overturned, resulting in his death at the scene.
