Falling car from Shenzhen Bay Bridge salvaged
A 46-year-old Senior Customs Officer surnamed Wong of the Customs and Excise Department, who was driving along the Shenzhen Bay Bridge on his way to the Shenzhen Bay Port yesterday (September 2), fell into the sea after plunging into the sea and was admitted to hospital where he died.
Police continue to investigate the fatal accident and have salvaged the private car involved in the incident. Police said the private car involved in the accident went out of control and crashed into an information display screen of the road before falling over the fence into the sea.
The road surface was dry at the time of the accident, and there was no road work in progress, so the display screen was not in operation at the time, according to the police.
The police received a report around 9 am last night, stating that a private car was seen traveling northbound along the Shenzhen Bay Bridge when it allegedly lost control, crashed into the opposite lane, and plunged into the sea.
Authorities dispatched personnel to the scene, where they found tire tracks and car parts on the road. It is reported that the private car lost control, crossed the line, and then flew over the guardrail into the sea. The private car was later discovered on the seabed, with the driver trapped inside. He was subsequently rescued by the firefighters but sustained multiple severe injuries. He was unconscious when transported to Tin Shui Wai Hospital and was confirmed dead at 1:30 am.
