HK Express breaks record with 6 mn passengers in 2024, named fastest-growing airline globally
The Hong Kong-based airline HK Express has reached a major milestone, recording a 40% year-on-year growth in passenger numbers in 2024. On New Year's Eve, the airline welcomed its 6 millionth passenger of the year, marking an all-time high for its annual passenger volume. This achievement earned HK Express the title of "Fastest Growing Airline of 2024", as recognized by a global travel data platform.
The Transport and Logistics Bureau highlighted in a social media post that on Dec. 15, HK Express and Cathay Pacific collectively carried over 100,000 passengers on a single day. During the holiday travel peak between Dec. 15 and the end of the year, the two airlines jointly surpassed 100,000 daily passengers on eight separate occasions.
Secretary for Transport and Logistics, Mable Chan, congratulated local airlines on reaching post-pandemic highs. She emphasized that the robust growth of HK airlines not only reinforces the city's position as an international aviation hub but also caters to the travel needs of both local and Greater Bay Area passengers.
With the full implementation of the three-runway system at HK International Airport, the government plans to expand flight routes and further enhance HK's transportation network. This initiative is expected to foster stronger connectivity and continue driving growth in the aviation sector.
