U.S. appeals court rules Trump liable for defamation and sexual assault
According to a report from CCTV News, on Dec. 30, local time, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled that former President Donald Trump is liable for defaming writer E. Jean Carroll after committing sexual assault against her. The court ordered Trump to pay US$5 million in damages.
The jury did not find Trump guilty of rape; however, they awarded Carroll US$2 million for the sexual assault and US$2.98 million for defamation.
Earlier this year, another federal jury had ruled that Trump must pay Carroll $8.33 million in damages, stemming from his public statements in 2019, where he disparaged Carroll and denied her allegations of sexual assault against him.
