Fatal traffic accident occurs in Yau Ma Tei
A fatal traffic accident occurred in Yau Ma Tei this morning (Dec. 30). A car was traveling along Jordan Road towards Ferry Street when it reportedly lost control near Shanghai Street, veering onto the pedestrian walkway and striking three passersby.
Among the injured was a 68-year-old man, who sustained severe injuries and lost consciousness. He was transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital but sadly did not survive. Two other foreign nationals were also injured and taken to the same hospital for treatment.
The 42-year-old driver of the private car has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death and is currently being detained for investigation. According to police, the incident occurred around 10:07 am when the driver, a 42-year-old man, was heading west along Jordan Road. Upon reaching the intersection of Jordan Road and Shanghai Street, the vehicle lost control, resulting in a collision with the three pedestrians.
The 68-year-old male pedestrian suffered multiple severe injuries and was confirmed dead at 11:07 am. A 25-year-old male foreign national sustained head injuries, while a 25-year-old female foreign national suffered injuries to her leg; both were conscious when transported to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.
The driver of the involved vehicle reported feeling unwell but remained conscious when taken to Kwong Wah Hospital for treatment. He has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving causing death and is under investigation.
The West Kowloon Traffic Department's Special Investigation Team is currently following up on the case. Police are urging anyone who witnessed the accident or has relevant information to contact the investigating officers at 3661 9023.
