Number of deaths from S. Korea's airplane crash rises to 62
Korean firefighting authorities reported that a Jeju Air passenger plane collided and caught fire, resulting in 62 fatalities on Dec. 29 local time. The aircraft involved was a Boeing 737-800 from the United States, manufactured in August 2009.
The plane was landing at Muan International Airport in South Korea when it veered off the runway and crashed into the airport's perimeter wall. The Consulate-General of the People's Republic of China in Gwangju confirmed that no Chinese citizens were among the victims.
In the wake of the accident, all domestic and international flights to and from Muan Airport have been canceled.
