S. Korea's airplane crash results in 47 fatalities
According to Korean firefighting authorities, a Jeju Air passenger plane that collided and caught fire resulted in 47 fatalities on Dec. 29 local time. It has been confirmed that the aircraft involved in the accident was a Boeing 737-800 from the United States, manufactured in August 2009.
On that day, the aircraft was landing at Muan International Airport, South Korea, when it veered off the runway and crashed into the airport's perimeter wall. The Consulate-General of The People's Republic of China in Gwangju confirmed that no Chinese citizens died in the plane crash.
As a result of the accident, all domestic and international flights to and from Muan Airport have been canceled.
