Chinese table tennis champion Chen Meng withdraws from world rankings with wish to return to competitions
Two-time Olympic champion and key member of China's national table tennis team, Chen Meng, announced today (Dec. 27) on social media that she has officially withdrawn from the world rankings. The decision comes in response to new World Table Tennis regulations imposing fines for withdrawals from tournaments, which Chen stated she is currently unable to meet due to her physical condition.
Chen explained that her body cannot withstand the demands of frequent high-intensity competitions at this time. As a result, she signed the necessary paperwork on Monday, Dec. 23, to formally withdraw from the world rankings. She emphasized that the decision was made out of respect for the international organization's rules and her need to prioritize recovery.
Despite stepping away from the rankings, she reassured her fans that she is looking forward to returning to the court and competing in the future.
