The President of the Hong Kong Federation of Restaurants & Related Trades, Simon Wong Ka-wo, stated yesterday (Dec. 22) that this year's Christmas business is expected to recover to pre-pandemic levels, with projected sales reaching HK$400 million increase of 10% compared to last year.

Wong noted that many Western restaurants and hotels have already fully booked their buffet reservations for Christmas Eve. The recent resumption of the Multiple Entries policy for travelers from Shenzhen has increased mainland tourists over the past two weeks, which is believed to offset any business losses from residents traveling north.

He also mentioned that the industry has not raised prices for the holiday season; in fact, some establishments are offering discounts or various promotional dishes to attract customers. Wong hopes that the government or private organizations will introduce more activities during the holidays to maintain this positive momentum into New Year's and the Lunar New Year.

Meanwhile, the Chairman of the Hong Kong Bar & Club Association indicated that nearly half of the tables for Christmas have already been booked, with anticipated sales rising by about 5% to 10% compared to last year. He noted that actual foot traffic will depend on the number of walk-in customers on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Chien also pointed out that the industry is benefiting from the influx of young mainland travelers following the restoration of the Multiple Entries policy in the past week.
