Speaking on a radio program today (Dec. 22), Cathay Pacific Group Chief Executive Ronald Lam said Cathay Pacific's positioning is clear and consistent with that of Hong Kong.
Cathay Pacific has made a number of reforms over the past two years, which have been reflected in the company's food and beverage offering, which includes Hong Kong's signature dishes as well as regional Chinese cuisine and red wines, and has worked in partnership with Western restaurants, he said.
During the COVID-19, Cathay Pacific fell out of the world's top 10 airlines. Lam said the group began rebuilding last year while preparing to invest in the opening of the three runways and returned to the top 10. 70,000 passengers now fly with Cathay every day, with a peak of more than 100,000, and this year it has been ranked among the world's top five best airlines, according to Lam.
He hoped to surpass the pre-epidemic level next year by increasing the number of destinations to more than 100, while Cathay Pacific aims to become the world's best airline.
Lam said Hong Kong's airport has reached saturation before the epidemic. The opening of the airport's three-run system is an important milestone for the Hong Kong aviation industry and the group, as capacity will no longer be restricted, describing it as a great opportunity.
