Cold weather alert: HK experiences winter's chill
A cold weather warning is currently in effect in Hong Kong. The Hong Kong Observatory reported on Dec. 20 that the winter monsoon is bringing cold weather to Guangdong. As of 7:30 AM, the lowest recorded temperature in Hong Kong was 11.9 degrees Celsius, marking the coldest temperature since the beginning of winter. Additionally, low-pressure areas near the southern Philippines contribute to unstable weather in the region.
The Observatory expects the winter monsoon to continue bringing clear and dry weather to the Guangdong coast over the next few days, resulting in significant temperature fluctuations between day and night. This seasonal wind is anticipated to persist in affecting southern China into early to mid-next week, keeping mornings and evenings cool along the coast. Furthermore, the low-pressure area in the southern Philippines is expected to move across the southern South China Sea early to mid-next week, with associated cloud bands covering the northern South China Sea and the Guangdong coast.
