Arrangements for boundary-crossing on New Year's Eve ready to ensure quality experience for visitors: CE
Chief Executive John Lee today (Dec. 17) announced that there will be a 12-minute fireworks display on New Year's Eve this year, which is expected to attract more tourists to Hong Kong. To accommodate this, several special arrangements will be made, including extending the opening hours of the Lo Wu Control Point until 2 a.m. on New Year's Day (Jan. 1, 2025). The Shenzhen Bay Port will operate overnight, and the Lok Ma Chau/Huanggang Port will maintain 24-hour service.
Lee indicated that staff will be increased at all crossings, with flexible deployment to ensure smooth and orderly operations during the Christmas and New Year period, both at the control points and in the streets. He mentioned that most MTR lines will also run overnight on New Year's Eve, with more frequent bus services between Sheung Shui and San Tin.
Lee continued that various departments of the SAR government are on high alert and fully prepared, with the Secretary for Administration convening a cross-departmental task force meeting last Thursday (Dec. 12). Additionally, a cross-departmental joint command center will be established at Lo Wu this Saturday (Dec. 21) involving the Immigration Department, Police Force, Customs, and other agencies. The government and relevant organizations will maintain close communication to ensure effective crowd management, information dissemination, and public transport arrangements, ensuring a smooth experience for visitors to Hong Kong.
