S. Korean ruling party leader promises to continue duties
South Korea's ruling party leader Han Dong-hoon said Saturday(Dec. 14) that he took seriously the result of the parliamentary vote to impeach President Yoon Suk-yeol, vowing to continue his duties.
The People Power Party leader made the remarks shortly after the National Assembly passed the impeachment motion against Yoon over his martial law declaration on Dec. 3.
Han told reporters that there was a lot of criticism against him during a meeting of his party's lawmakers after the impeachment vote but vowed to continue his duties as the leader.
"As the leader of the ruling party, I vow to right the wrongs and protect the constitution and democracy together with the people," Han said.
Han had earlier called for Yoon's "orderly" resignation from office but voiced support behind his impeachment on Thursday, noting there were no other options.
