Department of Justice won't apply for sentence review of subversion case

Recently, at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts, 47 individuals were sentenced in a case involving conspiracy to subvert state power. Of the 45 convicted defendants, sentences ranged from 4 years and 2 months to 10 years. Eight of the defendants have filed appeals against their sentences. The Department of Justice stated that they do not plan to seek a review of the sentences in the case of the 47 individuals charged with conspiracy to subvert state power.

The Department also mentioned that since some defendants have already appealed their sentences, it is not appropriate for them to comment on the adequacy of the sentencing in the case.

Up to now, eight defendants have filed appeals regarding their sentences and convictions, including Owen Chow, Helena Wong, Clarisse Yeung, Winnie Yu, Gwyneth Ho, Lam Cheuk-ting, Gordon Ng, and Michael Pang.
