Caricature: Better be careful
The Water Supplies Department (WSD) recently received inquiries from the public regarding text messages claiming to be from the department, requesting recipients to click on a link to pay outstanding fees. However, the provided link did not lead to the official website of WSD. The department has reported this incident to the police.
In recent days, some citizens on online forums have mentioned receiving a text message purportedly from the Water Supplies Department. The message, starting with "Hong Kong Water Supplies," demanded a total overdue payment of HK$28.26 from the recipients.
The Department clarified that they did not send out such text messages and did not lead customers to external websites via text message links. The department reminded the public that they have received certification for the "Short Message Service (SMS) Sender Registration Scheme" from the Office of the Communications Authority. All messages sent by the department will begin with a "#" symbol for easy identification of the sender's identity by the public.
