NAMI to implement audit recommendations to ensure proper use of public funds: Sun Dong
A new audit report has found that the Nano and Advanced Materials Institute conducted 20 overseas business trips in the past five years, with 9 trip arrangements being changed and extended for personal reasons. The report also highlighted that the then CEO and staff exceeded the hotel accommodation expenses in 10 of these trips, with the highest exceeding HK$80,000.
The Legislative Council's Public Accounts Committee held a public hearing on the relevant sections of the report. Sun Dong, the Secretary for Innovation and Technology, stated that while the government acknowledges the institute's past work, it also values the audit report, understanding the public's concern about the institute's effective use of resources and fulfilling its mission.
Sun emphasized that the institute's daily operations should adhere to corporate governance guidelines and address shortcomings promptly. The institute has implemented most of the recommendations provided in the audit report, and the government will actively urge the institute to follow up on the remaining suggestions while enhancing supervision to ensure the proper use of public funds.
