Watch This | Wild Siberian tiger appears at Changbaishan National Nature Reserve
On Dec. 3, the Northeast China Tiger and Leopard National Park Administration reported that a Siberian tiger was discovered in the Changbaishan National Nature Reserve, marking the first sighting in nearly 30 years.
On Nov. 26 during patrols, a ranger spotted what appeared to be Siberian tiger footprints, the first such discovery along that route. Subsequently, the Changbai Mountain Scientific Research Institute urgently set up nine monitoring cameras in the vicinity.
On Dec. 3, Liu, the head of a conservation management station in the Nature Reserve, captured a video of an individual tiger about 300 meters from the last tiger footprint sighting, with the tiger being less than 10 meters away during filming. The video showed an adult Siberian tiger, majestic and with sharp eyes.
Experts confirmed that this tiger is the same one identified from the footprints found earlier.
This marks the first time since 1994 that a Siberian tiger has been discovered in the Changbaishan National Nature Reserve, indicating an expansion of the wild Siberian tiger's habitat, extending over 200 kilometers westward from the Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park.
