Mable Chan replies to question on development of 'Smart Mobility' in HK
The State Council has decided on Dec. 5, 2024, to appoint Mable Chan as the Secretary for Transport & Logistics.
In response to a question from our DotDotNews reporter about the development of "Smart Mobility" in Hong Kong, Mable stated that Hong Kong has limited land area and lacks sufficient space to expand roads. She emphasized that optimizing the use of the limited space is an area that needs improvement in the future.
She mentioned that the government's initiative of "three-tunnel diversion" is an example of using technology for effective traffic management. She has visited cities in mainland China and hopes to utilize big data for real-time management in the future.
She said that the authorities will also release a traffic strategy research report next year, focusing on how technology and infrastructure can help citizens make better use of public transport.
Regarding innovative technology, she pointed out that letters of intent concerning Kai Tak and the Central Kowloon Route had been issued, aiming to attract new technological systems from mainland China to bring new developments to Hong Kong. Additionally, she noted that bidding for Kai Tak will begin next year, while the bidding for the Central Kowloon Route will start in 2026.
