Minjoo Party of Korea plans to move an impeachment motion today
According to the latest news from the Hankyoreh, the spokesman of the Minjoo Party of Korea said on Dec. 4 that since there is no guarantee whether the emergency martial law will be declared again in the future, the members of the party unanimously agreed that the initiation of impeachment and voting process should be accelerated, and they intend to propose a motion of impeachment against South Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol today.
The spokesman said that the earliest time for the impeachment motion is to propose it today, report it to the parliament tomorrow (Dec. 5), and vote on it within 24 hours to 72 hours after the report of the plenary assembly, and the earliest time for the impeachment of Yoon can be voted on the Dec. 6 if this schedule is followed. A presidential impeachment requires the approval of more than 200 members of the National Assembly.
According to the report, Han Dong-hoon, a representative of the ruling party of People Power Party, demanded that Yoon resign from the party and that all presidential officials and defense ministers resign from their posts at a closed-door meeting on the morning of Dec. 4.
Han said, "If we don't take these measures, we will not be able to survive the current crisis." He added that members of the party's supreme council agreed with the statement.
Earlier, the presidential office chief and senior presidential secretary resigned en masse.
