The founder of Next Media, Jimmy Lai, and three related companies of Apple Daily are facing charges of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces to endanger national security. The trial entered its 99th day on Dec. 1, where Lai continued to respond to questions from the court with phrases like "I forgot it" and "I don't know."
When the defense asked Lai whether he discussed the so-called "primaries" related to the conspiracy to subvert during his meeting with Chan Tsz-wah, Finn Lau Cho-dik, and a female "protester," they presented a related list sent to Lai.
They inquired if Lai knew about the "primaries."
Lai claimed he never cared about or was involved in the "primaries." However, the judge pointed out that Apple Daily had co-hosted a forum on the "primaries" and had extensive coverage, questioning Lai's assertion of being unaware of it. Lai then changed his stance and admitted he knew the "primaries" would take place.
