Caricature: A sudden forgetfulness
The founder of Next Media, Jimmy Lai, known for his anti-China stance and efforts to destabilize Hong Kong, is facing charges of conspiracy to collude with foreign forces and conspiracy to publish seditious publications. In July, three judges unanimously ruled that all charges against him were substantiated. The case continued today (Nov. 21) at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Courts (acting as the High Court).
During the trial, "I don't remember" became a frequent refrain for Lai. Even though the prosecution had tabulated the information according to the timeline, Lai claimed that he forgets some of the correspondence with the former Apple Daily executives - responding "I don't remember" to some details; and whether he used communication methods such as emails, he also said, "I don't remember".
