Mickey Huang from Taiwan sentenced to 8 months for possessing 2,259 sexually explicit images of minors
Mickey Huang Tzu-Chiao, a television presenter from Taiwan, has been sentenced to eight months in prison by the Taipei District Prosecutors Office for possessing 2,259 explicit materials involving minors, with the court ruling that his actions posed a severe threat to child safety.
The investigation revealed that Huang acquired child sexual abuse materials from an online voyeurism forum, storing them on a portable hard drive. Prosecutors confirmed that these materials involved 35 minors. Huang admitted to the crime during the initial investigation but later denied the charges during court proceedings.
Huang's case first came to public attention last year when he was accused of sexual harassment and subsequently livestreamed accusations against other celebrities. Following a search of his residence in February 2023, authorities discovered seven explicit videos of minors. Further investigations uncovered a total of 2,259 illegal files.
Initially, prosecutors granted Huang a two-year deferred prosecution, sparking widespread public outrage. The case was later reopened by the Taiwan High Prosecutors Office, which determined that the deferred prosecution was inappropriate.
The judge noted that the sheer volume of materials, as well as the number of victims involved, significantly increased the risk of further exploitation of minors.
Although Huang has no prior criminal record and is currently unemployed, the court found no evidence of remorse or attempts to reconcile with the victims. Consequently, the judge denied the possibility of substituting imprisonment with fines or granting probation.
