'Squid Game' comes to life on Paris' world-famous avenue as fans brave cold for iconic game
To celebrate the upcoming release of Squid Game Season 2 on Netflix on Dec. 26, Netflix France organized a live reenactment of the series' iconic "Red Light, Green Light" game on the famous Champs-Élysées in Paris on Dec. 1. Fans gathered to experience the thrilling atmosphere of the hit show's first season, despite the chilly 4°C weather.
According to Yonhap News, Netflix France recreated the "Red Light, Green Light" game in the heart of the bustling Champs-Élysées. A total of 456 participants, all dressed in the show's signature green tracksuits, took part in the event. Each participant was equipped with motion sensors, and three well-known French influencers served as team leaders.
When the French equivalent of the game's command, "un, deux, trois, soleil," was announced, the competitors dashed forward but froze immediately as the command ended. Although there were no hidden snipers like in the series, players dared not make sudden movements, relying only on subtle glances to stay in the game.
The cold weather posed an additional challenge. One of the contestants was seen with a runny nose but refrained from wiping it to avoid being disqualified. Another eager participant near the front stumbled and was escorted off the course by pink-clad guards, mimicking the show's iconic enforcers.
Joachim Trier, a spokesperson for Netflix France, expressed excitement about the event, saying that France has many passionate Squid Game fans, so the company wanted to find a creative way to celebrate the return of the series.
In addition to the Champs-Élysées event, Netflix France will host a special screening for 2,800 Squid Game fans on Dec. 10 in a large cinema, allowing attendees to preview the first two episodes of Season 2 before its global release.
