Hong Kong Chief Executive John Lee announced today (Dec. 3) that an interactive exchange question and answer session (Q&A session) will be held on Dec. 12 to discuss two key topics: the integrated development of education, technology and talents, as well as the expansion of global networks to explore new growth areas. The session will include dialogue with members of the Legislative Council.

On the topic of integrating education, technology, and talents, Lee referred to President Xi's address at the National Education Conference in September, where Xi emphasized the need to coordinate the implementation of national strategies for invigorating China through science and education, making China a talent-strong country, and driving development through innovation. Vice Premier Ding Xuexiang also highlighted the importance of advancing the integration of education, technology, and talent development, improving the innovation mechanisms within universities, and fostering top-tier innovative talent.

Lee noted that the 2024 Policy Address announced the establishment of the Committee on Education, Technology and Talents, led by the Chief Secretary for Administration, to coordinate and drive the integrated development of education, technology and talents. During the Q&A session, discussions will revolve around how the government can use this committee to formulate policies, enhance HK's competitiveness, drive innovation, improve the technological innovation system, and nurture world-class talent.

On the topic of expanding global networks, Lee highlighted President Xi's remarks at the 31st APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting in mid-November. Xi called for upholding multilateralism, promoting an open economy, and advancing regional economic integration and connectivity. The Q&A session will explore how the government can further strengthen international trade relations, open up new markets, and leverage HK's recent recognition as the world's freest economy.

Discussions will also focus on how HK can foster regional economic cooperation, expand global partnerships, and create new opportunities for the city. Additionally, the role of patriotic groups with affection for our country and HK in enhancing grassroots exchanges and creating further opportunities for HK will be discussed.
