Chief Executive John Lee said today (Dec. 2) that Hong Kong would continue to leverage its advantages under the "One Country, Two Systems" framework and use its global network to become an international education hub.

Lee made his remarks at the Global University Presidents and Leaders Summit, where attendees included leaders and presidents from more than 50 global universities.

"Our unique advantages spring from 'One Country, Two Systems'. Thanks to this unique principle, we enjoy unwavering support from our country and global connectivity," he said.

"Hong Kong attracts students from more than 100 countries. Over half of the academic staff in our institutions comes from outside Hong Kong. And we are building on that solid foundation, the Hong Kong SAR government endeavors to develop Hong Kong into an international post-secondary education hub," he added.

He noted the SAR has five universities among the world's top 100, and three in Asia's top 10.

He elaborated that the government would continue to promote the "study in Hong Kong" brand and encourage local universities to seek more collaboration with overseas and mainland institutions, especially with other cities in the Greater Bay Area.
