A wild boar was spotted along the Shau Kei Wan Island Eastern Corridor this morning (Dec. 3), about 1 meter long, with two injured hind legs, suspected to have been hit by a car. 3 police officers responded to the scene and surrounded the boar with a road sign, while the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (HKSPCA) staff took the boar away after arriving at the scene.
According to the Association, the wild boar was seriously injured and its two hind legs were paralyzed after being hit by a car, and was eventually euthanized by a veterinarian.
HKSPCA said that the wild boar was immediately taken to the emergency veterinary service for treatment. When the wild boar was examined by the veterinarian, its two hind legs did not show any reaction and were confirmed to be completely paralyzed.
The wild boar had lost its mobility, it would suffer unnecessary pain for a long period of time for a wild animal, and the veterinarians finally euthanized it to save it from suffering, HKSPCA said.
