Christmas celebration event features giant panda installations at Free Space in Kwun Tong Town Centre
Wai Chi-sing, Managing Director of the Urban Renewal Authority (URA), stated today (Dec. 1) in a blog post that with the Christmas season approaching, the URA team will hold festive events at the Free Space in Kwun Tong Town Centre and within the scope of the Sai Yee Street/Flower Market Road Development Scheme to engage citizens and connect the community.
Beyond showcasing the area's unique characteristics and development, the aim is to enhance the vibrancy of these two regions during the festive season and to support the revitalization of tourism and the local economy.
He pointed out that the URA team will host a large Christmas celebration event called "WINTER TRANSFORM" in Kwun Tong Town Centre. This event will feature a theme of "transformation" with a total of 80 giant panda installations, ranging from 0.5 to 3 meters tall, placed throughout various corners of the Free Space.
Starting from Dec. 6, two 1.5-meter-tall pandas will transform into industrial-style mechanical panda and astronaut panda representing the multiverse, showcasing the transformation of Kwun Tong Town Centre from a traditional industrial area to Kwun Tong Town Centre 2.0, promoting future development in Hong Kong's second core business district.
The giant panda installations at the Free Space in Kwun Tong Town Centre will also connect with the YM² Yue Man Square, hosting a winter Christmas party that links the festive activities within the mall to better attract foot traffic.
At the same time, the team hopes to seize the opportunities presented by the giant pandas to encourage merchants in the YM² Yue Man Square and Yue Man Hawker Bazaar to launch panda-related products, stimulating consumption and unlocking the potential of the "panda economy".
After Christmas, the team plans to dress the giant pandas at Free Space in Lunar New Year attire, extending the festive atmosphere until March next year and continuously injecting vitality into the Town Centre.
