With the approval of the State Council, the National Immigration Administration of the People's Republic of China has announced new travel policies for residents of Shenzhen, Zhuhai, and the Hengqin Guangdong-Macao In-Depth Cooperation Zone. These policies aim to facilitate travel to Hong Kong and Macao, offering more flexibility for eligible residents.
Starting Dec. 1, 2024, Shenzhen residents with household registration or residence permits can apply for a "multiple-entry visa" for travel to Hong Kong. Under this policy, residents will be allowed unlimited trips to Hong Kong within one year, with each stay not exceeding 7 days.
The Chief Executive, John Lee, said he is sincerely grateful to the central government for its continuous care and support for Hong Kong, for attaching importance to and considering the proposals put forward by the SAR government, and for its continuous efforts in introducing a number of measures to benefit Hong Kong.
Secretary for Transport and Logistics Lam Sai-hung stated on social media that in preparation for the incoming travelers, he has requested the Transport Department to maintain close communication with various transport operators to ensure that the necessary transport arrangements are ready at Hong Kong's boundary crossings.
According to data from Ctrip, the Hong Kong and Macao regions rank among the top 10 popular outbound travel destinations for mainland residents this year. Since the beginning of the year, orders for mainland residents traveling to Hong Kong and Macao have increased by over 11% year-on-year.
