1-minute News | Skiing to work? Seoul's facing huge blizzard
Seoul, South Korea, has been experiencing a blizzard for two days, with snow accumulation exceeding 40 centimeters in many areas of the capital region. This marks a new high for November in years and breaks a 117-year record.
According to reports from the Korean News Agency, as of 8 a.m. today (Nov. 28), the meteorological station in Seoul recorded snow accumulation of 28.6 centimeters, second only to the 31 centimeters observed in March 1922 since the station began observations in 1907. This ties in with the record from February 1969 as the third-highest in history and sets a new record for the highest snowfall in November in the history of meteorological observations. The report mentions that the snow has already exceeded adult knee height in many areas in the southern part of Gyeonggi Province and south Seoul.
Due to the blizzard's impact, transportation in many parts of South Korea has been severely disrupted, with some commuters even skipping to work and moving at a speed similar to the cars beside them.
Additionally, the blizzard has led to a series of accidents in various parts of South Korea. According to the Korean News Agency, yesterday afternoon, there was a chain-reaction collision involving 53 vehicles in Wonju City, Gangwon Province, resulting in at least 11 injuries.
Due to the blizzard, approximately 140 flights were canceled at Seoul Incheon Airport, and over 70 ferry routes were suspended.
