China extends visa-free arrangement for Australians to 30 days
China has announced an extension of its visa-free policy for Australian passport holders, increasing the maximum duration of stay from 15 days to 30 days. The updated policy will take effect from Nov. 30, 2024, and remain valid until Dec. 31, 2025.
According to a statement issued by the Chinese Embassy in Australia on Monday (Nov. 25), Australian citizens holding ordinary passports will be eligible for visa-free entry to China for purposes such as business, tourism, family visits, transit, and cultural exchanges. Each stay must not exceed 30 days under the policy. However, short-term visa applications accepted before Nov. 30 at midnight will still follow the current regulations
The move reflects the strong and growing ties between China and Australia, particularly in trade and economic cooperation. China has been Australia's largest trading partner since 2009, maintaining that position for 15 consecutive years. It remains the top destination for Australian exports and the largest source of its imports.
China's visa-free policy now covers passport holders from 38 countries, further bolstering international connectivity and people-to-people exchanges.
