HKO reminds elderly to pay attention to weather changes
Temperatures have been dropping recently. The Hong Kong Observatory and the Senior Citizen Home Safety Association held a joint press conference today (Nov. 25), urging citizens, especially the elderly, to pay attention to weather changes and to be mindful of warmth and safety both at home and when going out.
The spokesperson of the Observatory stated that a cold front is expected to cross the Guangdong coast around midnight today. Coupled with the northeast monsoon associated with the cold front, temperatures in Hong Kong will gradually decrease this week. Tomorrow morning, temperatures may drop to around 18 degrees Celsius, while Wednesday (Nov. 27) morning is forecasted to be about 16 degrees. On Thursday and Friday, temperatures in urban areas could further drop to about 15 degrees, with the New Territories being 2 to 3 degrees lower.
The spokesperson of the Association noted that during winter, the activity levels and muscle mass of the elderly decrease. Coupled with wearing heavy clothing, this leads to an increase in fall incidents. She urges the elderly to pay attention to keeping warm and to be mindful of safety at home and when going out, avoiding engaging in dangerous activities.
