Foreign Ministry: China will take resolute countermeasures if US continues to impose visa restrictions on HK officials
According to CCTV-13, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian hosted a regular press conference on Nov. 22. A reporter inquired about a statement made by the spokesperson of the United States Department of State on Nov. 19, announcing new visa restrictions on Hong Kong officials involved in the implementation of the Hong Kong National Security Law.
Lin stated that the Chinese central government firmly supports the Hong Kong SAR in maintaining national security and lawfully punishing activities that endanger national security. He strongly opposes the U.S. interfering in China's internal affairs under the guise of related judicial cases, and undermining the rule of law in Hong Kong. The U.S. should respect China's sovereignty and the rule of law in Hong Kong, adhere to the principles of international law and basic norms of international relations, and refrain from interfering in Hong Kong affairs in any way.
Lin emphasized that if the U.S. continues to impose visa restrictions on Hong Kong SAR government officials, China will take resolute countermeasures.
