Foreign Ministry responds to 'conspiracy to subvert state power' case
The sentencing for the "conspiracy to subvert state power" case in Hong Kong took place at the West Kowloon Magistrates' Court today (Nov. 19). This is the first case of its kind in Hong Kong, with 45 individuals involved in subverting state power being sentenced.
According to CCTV-13, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Lin Jian held a regular press conference on November 19. A reporter asked about comments made by Western countries regarding the Hong Kong court's rulings based on the Hong Kong national security law.
In response, Lin stated that Hong Kong is a society governed by the rule of law. No one can engage in illegal activities under the guise of democracy and attempt to escape legal sanctions.
He pointed out that certain Western countries ignore the fact that they maintain their national security through relevant judicial procedures, while unjustly criticizing the Hong Kong courts for fairly implementing the National Security Law. Such behavior is a serious desecration and violation of the spirit of the rule of law. The central government of China firmly supports the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region in safeguarding national security and punishing all activities that endanger national security according to the law and resolutely opposes certain Western countries interfering in China's internal affairs by leveraging judicial cases to smear and undermine the rule of law in Hong Kong.
