Watch This | Civic groups protest against Western politicians smearing and interfering in HK's judiciary
On November 19, sentencing was carried out in the subversion case, where 45 defendants, found guilty of attempting to subvert state power and endangering national security, received sentences ranging from 4 years and 2 months to 10 years.
The Hong Kong community widely views these sentences as a reflection of the court's serious determination regarding the defendants' crimes, necessitating severe punishment. However, certain officials from governments in the US, Australia, and Canada, along with anti-China organizations, politicians, and media outlets, have used this case to smear the Hong Kong National Security Law and interfere with the region's legitimate judicial processes.
A large number of Hong Kong citizens have expressed strong dissatisfaction, protesting outside relevant foreign consulates and offices in Hong Kong, condemning Western anti-China forces for undermining the rule of law in Hong Kong and interfering in China's internal affairs. Various civic groups stated during the protests that the people of Hong Kong welcomed the sentencing in the subversion case, acknowledging that the sentences for those who disrupted Hong Kong were well-deserved.
They believe that the court's ruling upholds the authority of the rule of law, demonstrates the power of justice, meets societal expectations, and embodies the principle that illegal acts must be punished. They argue that safeguarding national security and stability is essential for the successful implementation of "one country, two systems." Some countries have failed to reflect on their own actions and instead criticize the Hong Kong National Security Law, openly trampling on the rule of law in Hong Kong. Their hypocritical double standards are deemed unacceptable, prompting calls for these countries to cease their political manipulation and interference in Hong Kong affairs and to stop their blatant interference in China's internal matters.
