According to the recent "2024 Billionaire Census" released by the US data consulting firm Altrata, New York retains its title as the city with the most billionaires globally, while Hong Kong holds the second position with 107 individuals whose fortunes exceed US$1 billion (approximately HK$7.8 billion), significantly outpacing other Asian cities.
The report indicates that 28% of the world's super-rich reside in 15 cities, with the US and China being the only countries with multiple cities on the list. New York tops the global ranking with 144 billionaires, an increase of nine since the last census. Although the number of billionaires in Hong Kong decreased by five compared to the previous year, it still far exceeds the third-ranked city, Los Angeles, which has 87 billionaires.
Other Chinese cities making the top fifteen include Beijing (60 billionaires, 7th), Shenzhen (41 billionaires, 9th), and Hangzhou (33 billionaires, 15th). Singapore also made the list with 58 billionaires, coming in at 8th place.
The report shows that there are a total of 3,323 billionaires worldwide, representing a 4% increase from the previous year, with total wealth rising by 9% to a record US$12.1 trillion.
