Bus catches fire in Tai Lam Tunnel around midnight, causing over 20 passengers walking 1 km to escape

Around midnight today (Nov. 21), a double-decker bus on the KMB 279X route was approaching the Kowloon exit of the Tai Lam Tunnel when the driver noticed that the rear of the bus was on fire.

He immediately stopped the bus and evacuated the passengers. Thick smoke filled the tunnel, and over 20 passengers hurriedly made their way about 1 kilometer out of the tunnel. Fortunately, no one was injured.

Firefighters were alerted and arrived on the scene to extinguish the fire. They managed to put it out about 15 minutes later. As a result of the incident, both directions of the Tai Lam Tunnel were temporarily closed.
