
The "Hong Kong International Airport · Standard Chartered Hong Kong Marathon: Three-Runway System 10km International Race" will take place on the airport runway tomorrow (Nov. 17). This marks the return of a long-distance running event in Hong Kong International Airport since 1998.
Approximately 12,000 runners are expected to participate, and the organizers have specially invited 14 elite international runners to compete.
The Transport and Logistics Bureau stated on social media today (Nov. 16) that this event is held to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and that the Hong Kong International Airport's three-runway system will take effect on Nov. 28.
There are three race distances: 10km, 5km, and 3km, with categories for elite runners, the general public and wheelchair participants.
The women's elite race will kick off at 8:10 a.m., followed by the 10K Challenge Group at 8:30 a.m., with all events expected to conclude by 2:15 p.m.
There will be seven medical stations and several water stations along the route, and a mobile first-aid team will be on standby.
The Transport and Logistics Bureau stated that the Standard Chartered Marathon has consistently attracted athletes from mainland China, local participants, and overseas competitors to Hong Kong, highlighting the city's status as a hub for international sporting events that provide participants with unique opportunities to experience Hong Kong's core transportation infrastructure.
